This delivery involved a Lagoon 50 from the Philippines to Phuket, an offshore passage through Southeast Asia requiring flexible weather planning, fuel management and careful navigation.
The voyage from the Philippines to Phuket typically covers around 1,700 to 2,000 nautical miles depending on the departure point and routing. The passage includes busy commercial shipping areas, numerous island groups and the transit of the Strait of Malacca before crossing the Andaman Sea to Thailand. Seasonal monsoon conditions play a significant role in determining the most suitable departure window.
Before leaving the Philippines, the Lagoon 50 underwent a comprehensive pre-departure inspection. Engine and saildrive fluid levels were checked, steering systems inspected and the autopilot tested to confirm reliable operation during the long offshore legs. Electronic charts were updated, navigation equipment verified and safety gear inspected before clearing for departure. Spare consumables including fuel filters, raw water impellers, engine belts and replacement fuses were also carried to support routine maintenance if required during the delivery.
Throughout the passage, regular weather downloads, engine inspections and navigation log entries formed part of the daily routine. Fuel planning was reviewed continuously to account for extended motoring periods during lighter winds, while the Lagoon 50’s generous fuel and water capacity made it well suited to longer passages between ports.
After arriving in Phuket, the catamaran was secured in its berth, washed down with fresh water and prepared for handover. A detailed post-delivery report was provided to the owner, including engine hours, fuel consumption and any maintenance observations noted during the voyage, ensuring the yacht was ready for its next cruising season.
