This Pacific 62 was delivered from Cairns to Bali, a passage that involved transiting the Coral Sea, Torres Strait and the Indonesian archipelago before arriving in Bali. The Cairns to Bali passage is approximately 1,900–2,000 nautical miles, depending on the route taken and weather routing. After leaving Cairns, the delivery heads north through the Torres Strait before crossing the Arafura and Timor Seas and then continuing west through Indonesian waters towards Bali.
The route covers a wide range of conditions and requires careful timing through both Torres Strait and the Indonesian islands, making it a rewarding offshore delivery for a vessel of this size. Torres Strait requires careful passage planning because of strong tidal streams, shallow areas and significant commercial and local vessel traffic. Further west, the route through Indonesian waters brings different navigation and weather considerations, with the final approach to Bali involving increased vessel traffic and local activity.
