50ft Performance Carbon Trimaran Delivery from Langkawi to the South Pacific
High-performance trimarans occupy a specialised corner of the yacht delivery industry. Lightweight construction, large sail plans and the ability to cover significant daily distances mean these vessels require crew familiar with performance multihulls rather than conventional cruising yachts.
Relocating a yacht from Southeast Asia into the South Pacific is also a major undertaking. Owners often choose to engage a professional delivery skipper rather than dedicate the time required for a passage spanning multiple countries, monsoon seasons and cruising regions.
For this delivery, we collected the trimaran in Langkawi and repositioned it into the South Pacific, managing the relocation from departure through to final handover. Deliveries of this type are often driven by racing schedules, cruising plans or owner relocations between major sailing regions. Sailing a high performance multihull takes a specialised team.
The delivery also required managing the technical demands of a lightweight carbon multihull over a long ocean passage. With a large sail plan and high potential boat speed, apparent wind, rig loads and sail loads can increase quickly, so reefing and sail changes need to be made before conditions become excessive. Steering, autopilot response, rudder loads and the condition of the rig are checked regularly.
For the owner, using a multihull delivery skipper experienced with performance multihulls means the yacht can be moved between major cruising regions without having to assemble a specialist crew or undertake the ocean passage themselves. We manage the yacht from collection in Langkawi through the offshore passage and final handover, with the vessel operated according to its performance and the conditions encountered.
