Typical routes include Hong Kong to Singapore (approximately 1,450 nautical miles), a passage involving the South China Sea and the busy shipping lanes of the Malacca Strait, and the Philippines to Langkawi (approximately 1,300 nautical miles), where routing decisions are often influenced by seasonal weather patterns and the availability of suitable fuel and clearance ports. Shorter regional movements between Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia are also common as owners reposition vessels between cruising areas and refit locations.
